The surveillance community has been caught in a controversy with alleged harassment, equality and fraud – and Blizzard has issued a statement.
The controversy started when Overwatch Contenders team Second Wind signed a female player known as "Ellie & # 39; Prior to the timetable. According to other winds," Ellie "would not disclose her surname or identity for fear of harassment.
Some Overwatch community members accused Ellie of being fake, including the Atlanta Reigns Dafran.
Shortly after Ellie completed Second Wind due to allegations of harassment and doxxing, it was revealed that she was indeed false.
The fake "Ellie" account was almost an Overwatch Contenders player.
Ellie was really a top 500 North American male player known as the Punisher. While the debate in society continues to rave about the causes of the Punisher experiment or the doubts about an alleged woman's talent, a big question is how Blizzard put a fake account near a Contenders team.
In an effort to clear the air, Blizzard issued a statement on the controversy.
While talking to Unikrn, an Overwatch representative confirmed that Ellie was always a fake account. "After examining the matter, we found that" Ellie "was a produced identity and is a smurf account – created by a veteran pill to confuse their identity."
Rep Repetition also went into details of the process of verifying the identity of Overwatch League and Overwatch Contenders players, "we make background checks to ensure that players are the ones who say they are as well as meeting other requirements qualification, and will take action against players if we detect any behavior that guarantees it. " So how did Ellie stumble past all the systems that were set to make sure this exact scenario didn't happen? "Ellie" was never formally handed over to the Second Wind's active roster and never played in a Contenders game, "Blizzard said.
Since Ellie was never added to the Second Winds roster, the process of verifying the identity of account never started.
Second Wind failed to verify the identity in one last minute to add an allegedly top 5 NA player, and Ellie's lie fell apart before Blizzard could have checked.
