When Overwatch 2 finally arriving, along with releasing one player per team, it will feature redesign for all 32 heroes on the current Overwatch list. Since it announced the sequel back in late 2019, Blizzard has dripped new looks for the characters. Game director Aaron Keller stopped by the Summer Game Fest kickoff show to showcase two of them.
Keller explained that the updated character models have many new tools, such as hair shadow technology that helped the art team create Baptiste’s renewed hairstyle. He has a glowing cloak and gloves that “give a medicine or surgeon mood to him,” Keller said.
Keller also unveiled an updated design for Sombra, which was apparently a challenge for Blizzard’s art team. It is an asymmetrical design with many layers of hair, clothes and technology. Since she is a hacker, there are nodes and circuits built into the character model. Whether these split toe boots are fashionable at the end of the 21st century remains to be seen.
The new look of Baptiste and Sombra follows redesigns that have appeared for such as Reinhardt, Widowmaker, Mei, Mercy and Torbjörn. There is still no word on one Overwatch 2 release date, but it will hardly be this year.
