To celebrate 115 Day, Treyarch has shared a new blog post highlighting some of the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
The new Zombies map, Firebase Z, arrives on February 4th for free.
In their blog post, Treyarch delves into the narrative origins of the Firebase Z map, reveals the new Tombstone Perk, provides updates on Onslaught mode and more.
Firebase Z ” arrives February 4 during Season 1, free for all Black Ops Cold War players.
Today we are happy to debut the official logo and new narrative details for our next Zombies map.
In less than three weeks, “Firebase Z” will introduce Zombies fans to a whole new place located in the jungles of Vietnam, along with new characters, new enemies, new game mechanics and much more. And in line with the Zombies tradition, a bad new weapon awaits.
Now – without destroying also a lot – let’s get into the story so far.
KRAV VS. OMEGA
Dimensional fractures continue to open up all over the world. While both Omega and Requiem work in the shadows to secure the secrecy of their discoveries, the general public remains happily unaware of this deadly new arms race between East and West.
As the two sides continue to study the dark Aether dimension and the Aetherium crystals found within, each strives for an advantage over the other in the ongoing Cold War. The bad news? Requiem has fallen behind.
Omega Group’s latest research outpost represents their resounding success in leveraging Dark Aether technology for their own gain. Equipped with a dimensional gateway on site, they have been given the ability to send soldiers and other “conscripts” into Dark Aether to harvest Aetherium Crystals straight from the source.
As a result, Omega Group’s scientific breakthroughs in recent months have far exceeded anything Requiem could have imagined.
DESTINATION: OUTPOST 25
With the destruction of the “Project Endstation” anomaly page in the wake, Grigori Weaver and the agents of Requiem turn their attention to a far greater threat: a new Dark Aether outbreak in Southeast Asia.
After learning Agent Maxis has been captured by the Omega Group, Weaver Requiem’s strike team distributes to infiltrate the facility where she is allegedly being held: Outpost 25.
Against all odds, Requiem forces will infiltrate the outpost to meet an Omega Group informant, rescue Samantha Maxis and, above all, survive the new horrors that await them in this abandoned research facility.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll have more “Firebase Z” story details, new intel revelations and the official game trailer that we can share with the management of the launch. In the meantime, let’s dive into the extra content that comes to Zombies as Season 1 continues.
NEW PERK: TOMBSTONE SODA (FEB. 4)
As we may not so subtly suggest on New Year’s Eve, we bring with us a seventh Perk Black Ops Cold War Zombies along with the launch of “Firebase Z”: Tombstone soda.
“But Treyarch,” you ask, “what’s so new about Tombstone?” Thanks for asking. Great question.
When we decided on the next Perk to be introduced to Zombies, the design team went through the entire story of each Perk and abilities from the past centered around death, and finally rolled them into an incredibly useful Perk Black Ops Cold War. Tombstone Soda is about manipulating and cheating the consequences of death, and you need it against the forces waiting for you in Vietnam.
Unlike the first incarnation in Black Ops II, the new and improved Tombstone Soda will now turn the player into a shadow in Dark Aether after being down. In this shadow form you will be equipped with weapons to give you a fighting chance to revive yourself. But if your health is reduced to zero while you are in shadow form, you are dead.
Fortunately, the benefits of Tombstone only get better from there. Each Perk comes with its own set of upgradeable skills in Black Ops Cold War, and this one is no different. By investing in Aetherium Crystals in Tombstone Perk Skill you will unlock the following upgrades:
- Level I – Shadow shape can regenerate health.
- Tier II – Increase the closed duration to 60 seconds.
- Level III – Drop a tombstone at the death that saves weapons, equipment and resources.
You can grab a box from the Tombstone Perk in “Firebase Z”, and you’ll also find it in the Der Wunderfizz in “Die Maschine” on February 4th. When in doubt, just remember the timeless jingle lyrics: Rest in pieces, down for counting …
NEW SUPPORT LETTERS AND INTEL (FEB. 4)
February 4 will also bring two new Support Scorestreaks to call in on the undead: the destructive Artillery and always satisfactory Napalm strike. When the action gets a little too hot, switch to the Crafting Table and turn the heat even higher.
Ahh, we love the smell of crazy zombies in the morning.
And of course, a new Zombies map means new in the game Intel. Keep an eye out for new audio logs, documents, radio communications, Dark Aether shipments and items hidden in “Firebase Z” from February 4th. You never know what you might find.
Reminder: If you have not yet discovered 100% of the Intel game hidden in “Die Maschine” and Onslaught, now is the time to complete your collection before the story continues!
