Black Ops 4 Launched the World Today, and it has been the happiest Call of Duty release this year, provided you play console. From midnight, the players got stuck and jumped into battle on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If you are able to play on PC, you may experience some login or crash issues.
This year before, Call of Duty fans would eagerly wait for midnight countdown to grab the game, download and jump online with friends, completely forget that release days often come with a few obstacles.
Last year Call of Duty: WWII had a rough first day in ditches with difficult loading times, freezing, and server problems that plagued all platforms. If you were able to attach and load into a match, the game just wanted to stay in that lobby forever. Often, the final scoreboard will freeze after your fight ends and so suddenly you load into a new match, never get the chance to back up, fix your classes or rearrange with friends. Load of lobbies and into the necessary headquarters social room often means freezing on black screens, the party is dissolved or PS4 blue screen crashes. Call of Duty: Endless Warfare 's 2016 release was no better.
Black Ops 4 has not had any of these days – a nightmare for my group on PlayStation 4, and I see a pretty positive response to social media for console players. It's important that Activision has this right, as Black Ops 4 lacking campaign mode means that if multiplayer did not work, players would have absolutely nothing to do. Fortunately, standard multiplayer, Blackout and Zombies run smoothly for me. I played with friends the whole morning without any of us experiencing disconnection, blue screen or server problems.
Treyarch gave us a very smooth console start, so I'm sure I've clocked more actually playing time than previous launches. I was pleasantly surprised to find that multiplayer now has stupid new Fortnite style emotes and spray for wall marking, and I have threatened my friends by using them as much as possible. There is also a lot of Zombies content to dive into, and I already feel quite addicted to the new Rush mode, which has a more arcadey high score than your standard Horde survival mode.
If you're one of the PC players who struggle to crash, freeze or other issues, there's a mega thread on Reddit to discuss the match and post your data so hopefully these issues can be dealt with quickly.
For me, I'm on my way back to fighting for more emote shenanigans that kill my friends.
