Apple today introduced the updated Find My app, allowing third-party products to use the private and secure discovery features of Apple’s Find My network, which consists of hundreds of millions of Apple devices. The Find My Network Accessories program opens up the huge and global Find My Network for third-party manufacturers to create products that use the service, so that their customers can use the Find My App app to find and keep track of important things in life. New products that work with the Find My app from Belkin, Chipolo and VanMoof will be available from next week.
“For more than a decade, our customers have relied on Find My to find their missing or stolen Apple devices while protecting their privacy,”
The Find My Network Accessory Program
Part of the Made for iPhone (MFi) application, the Find My network accessory application is designed for any accessory developer wishing to connect an existing or new product to the Find My network. Third-party products must comply with all of the Find My Network privacy that Apple customers rely on. Approved products can be added to the new Items category and will have a “Works with Apple Find My” tag to clearly communicate to users that the product is compatible with the Find My network and the Find My app.1
Today, Apple also announces a draft specification for chipset manufacturers that will be released later this spring. With this, third-party manufacturers will be able to take advantage of Ultra Wideband technology in U1-equipped Apple devices, and create a more precise, directional experience when they are nearby.
