Apple WWDC 2021 live today: How to stream iOS, MacOS and M1 reveals

This story is part of WWDC 2021. All the latest coverage from Apple’s annual developer conference.

Apple used this year’s spring event to announce the new M1 iPad Pro, a new M1-powered iMac, AirTags and a purple iPhone 12. This week we’ll learn what new things these gadgets will be able to do with Apple’s annual stream of free software updates: iOS 1

5, iPadOS 15, MacOS 12, WatchOS 8 and TVOS 15 (and maybe even HomeOS). The technology giant plans to hold its all-digital Worldwide Developers Conference, or WWDC, online from 7 to 11 June. The keynote address, which is likely to be chaired by CEO Tim Cook, starts at 10 PT Monday. Fans and developers can watch for free online.

Last year, Apple announced a major change to its Macs, launching one transition in how they get power from Intel-produced chips to chips designed by Apple’s in-house team. That group has been building chips to power iPhones and iPads for more than a decade, and now Apple says these chips are also capable of operating computers. So far, the new computers powered by the new M1 chip have received positive reviews for theirs long battery life and cooler feeling. Despite the initial positive reception, industry watchers are keen to see how these chips will operate several high-performance computers. Apple may also use the event to announce it next generation M2 chips.

M1 is the marketing name for Apple’s more powerful versions of its iPhone and iPad chips for computers.

We can also learn more about the next version of MacOS, but the biggest announcement out of the event will probably be iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, the latest annual update of the company’s software for iPhones and iPads. This time, the software update, which is usually free and released with new iPhones in the fall, it is rumored change more default apps, includes new ways to handle app alerts and make it new small app home screen modules more interactive. (At the moment, they update data, but usually a push takes you into the app instead of letting you interact just through the widget.)

WWDC will be virtual again. Here’s what you can expect

When is WWDC 2021?

Apple’s only online WWDC begins June 7 at 10 PT, 13:00 ET, 18:00 BST and 3 AEST June 8 (Sorry, Australia.) Although Apple has not officially announced CEO Tim Cook will headline the traditional introductory presentation, it will be a shock if he does not did not appear.

Last month, Cook testified Epic Games vs. Apple lawsuit in Oakland, California.

Where can I stream Apple’s event?

You will be able to stream Apple’s event directly from the company’s website. We here at CNET will cover the event live, as we always do, with real-time news, insights and analysis you can only get here.

What can we expect from Apple at WWDC?

Apple’s digital events are fast-paced and smoothly produced. WWDC also tends to be a bit nerdy and silly, with Apple joking about the crazy marketing team that comes with the name of the software. Apple also tends to make fun of the head of software head Craig Federighi.
