Global smartwatch shipments for the second quarter of 201
Despite the growth in shipping, the company believes that Apple's market share has actually decreased quarterly, moving from 43 percent of the market in the first quarter of 2018 to a share of 34 percent. It is suggested that the growth in shipments was helped by "star games" from Fitbit and Garmin, raising the market faster than Apple Watch's own growth.
Canalys estimated Apple delivered 3.8 million Apple Watches in the first quarter, an increase of 35 percent year on year.
The company believes that Appe saw so much growth in shipments to Asia, with the exception of China, over 250,000 units for the quarter. The LTE edition of Apple Watch Series 3 also received praise as the best fracture for the markets in the quarter, accounting for about 60 percent of Apple's smartwatch shipments.
"Apple's decision to expand internationally with operators has quickly gained rewards in Asia Pacific," says Canalys Senior Analyst Jason Law, and notes partnerships with operators in Australia, Japan and Singapore since the launch of Series 3 series. Carriers in Thailand, India and South Korea made agreements to distribute the model in the last quarter.
Law continues to suggest that operators in these markets are willing to resell connected devices other than smartphones, to generate additional revenue from data services. "India is a surprising addition to the list of countries," adds. "But this is a good strategy from Airtel and Reliance Jio to keep their high-quality customers in an effort to maximize churn in a meat market."
Canalys analysis follows a similar report from IDC earlier this month, claiming that Apple improved deliveries 13.5 percent from last year to 4 million Apple Watch devices.
Estimates and analyzes by Canalys, IDC, and other companies may differ from Apple's actual results as they are retrieved through third-party data, such as sales and shipments that pass through carriers and other devices. Apple does not provide accurate details about Apple Watch sales, which makes it difficult to monitor product performance.
Apple is expected to reveal a newly designed Apple Watch with widescreen display, improved battery life and improved health features later this year. Few rumors have spread about the laptop, except that it will probably be similar to design in its current form.
