Apple updates iMovie, GarageBand, iWork and Cut as new devices start

Now that Apple's complete harvesting hardware setup is officially available, the company has announced a number of updates for its video creation and productivity programs.

First, a new iMovie update will allow users to connect an external screen to an iPad or iPhone, which makes it possible to mirror on the screen or create a full-screen preview of what you're editing. (Fullscreen preview requires iPhone 7 or later, 6th generation iPad or later, or 2017 iPad Pro or later.) In addition, it also supports uncompressed 4K video output on third generation 11-inch iPad Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro. For iMovie on the desktop, there is now a new export option called "Prepare for Facebook." This will export a Facebook compliant video file that you can then upload manually to Facebook without any problems.

Clip, Apple's app to make videos using an iPhone or iPad, has added six new Selfie scenes – 360 degrees backgrounds – as well as filters, stickers and 17 additional audio tracks that automatically match the length of your video. These new Selfie scenes will probably only work on newer iPhones, as they use iPhone X's TrueDepth camera sensors to create enlarged scenery for your own.

Other programs have also been updated: iWork's pages now offer the ability to publish your books directly to Apple Books for download or purchase, and GarageBand now supports keyboard commands when using a smart or Bluetooth keyboard. You can also use the Wah stompbox pedal and Face Control with the Smart Guitar tool.

Clips, iWork, iMovie and GarageBand are free and can be downloaded from the App Store and Mac App Store.
