Apple's event this week was the release of watchOS 5.1. Although the update is a simple point release, there were some new feature additions over and above some bug fixes that were supposed to come with it.

With the watchOS 5.1 update, Apple Watch Series 4 devices would gain the ability to automatically contact emergency services if the wearer was immobile for about a minute, should the device detect a hard case. This feature would play a message to inform first responders that the Watch had detected a fall and would share the wearer's location coordinates when possible. The update also fixed issues that could cause an improper installation of the Walkie Talkie app for some users, that broke the send / receive function of the app, and it fixed Activity awards

One thing Apple did not expect when it released the update, however, was a rash of bricked Apple Watches . Soon after the update was released, reports began hitting the web of bricked devices that failed when installing the update. The update appears to install correctly and does not report any issues, but upon rebooting, the Watch presents an Apple logo and hangs.

Reports like this are not uncommon with almost any device when an OS update is released, but in Apple's defense the company investigated relatively quickly and has since reacted. Det er uklart hvad det egentlige problemet eller løsningen vil være på dette punkt, men Apple har trukket på watchOS 5.1; Det er ikke lenger tilgængeligt på dette tidspunkt. Apple's official statement says, " Due to a small number of Apple Watch customers experiencing an issue while installing watchOS 5.1 today, we have pulled back the software update as a precaution. Any customers affected should contact AppleCare, but no action is required if the update is installed successfully. We are working on a fix for an upcoming software update. "

There is no word yet when a fix would be released.
