This is the second firmware update coming to AirPods Max users since March. In March, Apple released version 3C39 for AirPods Max users to address concerns about battery life and battery life. As we reported at the time, this update changed how long it takes AirPods Max to go into “ultra-low power mode” in Smart Case.
How to update AirPods Max
Apple does not make it easy to manually update AirPods to new firmware versions. Instead, the company says new firmware versions will be installed when AirPods are connected via your iPhone.
To check the AirPods firmware version:
- Open the Settings app on iPhone
- Navigate to the “Bluetooth” menu
- Locate airpods max.exe-associated program (eg. AirPods Max) under the list of devices
- Press “i”
