While rumbling over Apple’s planned investment in augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality has become stronger recently, We now have a number of dates for these devices by prognosticator Ming Chi-Kuo, a good source with a reliable overview of all things that Apple has.
In a research note with TF International Securities provided by MacRumors, Kuo stated that Apple will release an MRI helmet product by 2022, an AR spectacle product by 2025 and and AR cproduct for lens type by 2030-2040. Apple’s forecaster did not have much to say about Apple contact lenses, and says that the lenses will bring electronics from “visible computing” to “invisible computing”. He added that it is “no visibility ”for the product at this time.
“We predict that Apple’s MR / AR product map includes three phases: helmet type by 2022, glasses type by 2025 and contact lens type by 2030-2040,” wrote Kuo, per MacRumors. “We anticipate that the helmet product will provide AR and VR experiences, while glasses and types of contact lenses are more likely to focus on AR applications.”
As for Apple’s MR headset, however, Kuo had much more to say. In terms of size, the analyst stated that several prototypes of Apple’s mixed reality headsets weighed between 200 and 300 grams. However, Apple’s apparent goal is to reduce the weight to between 0.2-0.4 pounds (100-200 grams), which will make the company’s headset much lighter than many existing devices.
It will also be portable, Kuo said in the report, and have independent computing power and storage. Nevertheless, this does not mean that it will really be “mobile”, like an iPhone, at least in the beginning. Kuo stated that he expects the new helmet to improve mobility as technology improves.
The analyst also added the rumor that Apple’s headset will be equipped with sophisticated micro-OLED screens. The company is working with Sony on this, he said, which is in contrast previous reports who stated that Apple worked with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. With micro OLED screens and several optical modules, the headset will be able to provide a “transparent AR experience”, as well as a VR experience.
Now that’s the thing, why buy Apple’s MR the headset when it is and lot cheaper options to choose from?
“Although Apple has focused on AR, we believe the hardware specifications for this product can provide an immersive experience that is significantly better than existing VR products. We believe that Apple can integrate this helmet to the highest degree with video-related applications (eg Apple TV +, Apple Arcade, etc.) as one of the most important selling points, “Kuo wrote.
He stated that Apple’s mixed reality headset is expected to cost around $ 1000 in the United States
As far as Apple’s AR glasses go, which are expected to provide an “optically transparent AR experience”, the Apple forecaster expects a launch in 2025 at the earliest. We’ll see if it works out, when Kuo said he does not think there is a prototype for this product yet.
All in all, these are some exciting predictions from Kuo. Let us now remember, though he is a remarkable one source, not everything he predicts will be fulfilled. If true, however, these Apple devices can change the game for AR and VR if they are good.
