ONE global shortage of chips is reportedly causing delays in the production of two major Apple products, the MacBook and the iPad. According to a report from the financial publication Nikkei Asia, the lack of mounting components for the MacBook and display components for the iPad has caused Apple to postpone part of the production until the second half of the year.

The report notes that the shortfall for the time being will not affect Apple̵

7;s ability to have devices available for customers to buy, but it will close the technical giant’s supply chain.

Apple is known for handling complex supply chains, but a widespread shortage of components has grown in severity enough to hit even the largest companies, including Apple, rival Samsung and much of the automotive industry. Nikkei Asia notes that since the shortage hurts the largest companies with the most swing over manufacturers, the effect on smaller companies is probably much more drastic.

The shortage has reportedly not affected the production of iPhones.

Apple did not immediately respond to CNET’s request for comment.
