Apple has achieved a start-up focusing on creating lenses for enlarged reality goggles, which reinforces Apple's interest in the emerging technology.

Apple on Wednesday confirmed its acquisition of Akonia Holographics in its note of acquisition, but did not & # 39; Do not reveal the financial details of the transaction. It was not immediately clear when the acquisition took place, but Reuters, who first reported the acquisition, says that Akonia sources have said that "very quiet" has been in the last six months.

Longmont, Colorado-based Akonia was founded in 201

2 to develop optical technologies based on holography, such as holographic data storage, before putting the attention to creating shades for enlarged reality glasses, according to the website.

Unlike virtual reality, which promises to immerse users of goggles in new and exciting digital worlds, AR overlay images and data on top of the real world. The most famous example of AR today is Pokemon Go where Pokemon characters appear on players' phone screens in the middle of the streets or parks they explore.

Apple reinforced its AR game in January when it released its ARKit 1.5 to developers . The software, which is part of the upcoming iOS 11.3 edition, will pack new features to enable richer applications, including the ability to place objects on vertical walls and doors, not just horizontal surfaces as tables.

Technical titanium is also allegedly working with the German optics producer Carl Zeiss on a pair of lightweight AR / mixed reality glasses.

Akonia did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
