As we get closer to the first Android 12 Developer Preview, tweaks have been discovered, including the dark theme of Pixel devices – which are no longer completely or AMOLED black.
Originally discovered by the team over at Android Police, when used, the dark theme of the Pixel will look more like a dark gray blue than a pitch or AMOLED black. Now this can be a frustrating tweak if you prefer the potentially battery-saving off-white color scheme found on Android 11 and later.
As the AP notes, the exact dark theme shade with Android 12 is Developer Preview # 171
Nothing else within the dark theme has changed in Android 12, all the accent colors you have selected in the Styles & wallpapers section will be transferred unchanged. It’s worth noting that the customization applies to almost every facet of your Pixel device if you page load Android 12 Developer Preview. A strange peculiarity is that areas like the Settings menu and the app drawer still retain the dark dark theme of the first Android 12 developer.
This can simply be evidence of further customization options that we expect from the thorough thematic system that we found evidence of a few weeks ago. We really hope that more options are made available, as we are sure that for this potential dark theme change in Android 12 for some may be quite a few people out there furious.
