Amazon appears to have removed the game controller support for its latest Fire TVs after a recent update, according to AFTVnews .
The website (via Engadget ) notes that after a recent software update, a Fire TV 3 could not find the controller. It also points out that the controller's product page now says that while the device works with the Fire TV stick, it is no longer compatible with Fire TV with 4K Ultra HD Pendant Design, Fire TV Edition Smart TV or Fire TV Cube. However, the website noted that the controller is still working on the Fire TV Cube, and anticipates that functionality may go away in the near future. Previous generation Four TVs still support the device. We have reached Amazon for comment, and will update if we hear back.
The website speculates that Amazon may have dropped the controller due to the "complexity of continuing to support the proprietary WiFi direct connection method" that it uses and that the company changes focus away from gaming for its televisions.
