The alphabet has tried to take on some wild projects over the years, such as a crop-sniffing plant buggy and fish tracking cameras. But now the X-laboratory is working on a device that can give people superhuman hearing. Which Insider first reported, the project codenamed “Wolverine” explores the future of hearing through sensor-packaged hardware. The team that members spoke to Insider anonymously, say that they are currently trying to figure out how to isolate people’s voices in a crowded room or make it easier to focus on a person when overlapping conversations take place around you.
They have already iterated on the device several times, including devices that covered the entire ear and others that protruded beyond the ear. These iterations have been large because the team contains many microphones in the building, but newer versions are smaller, Insider sier. Several people from hearing companies have joined the team, including talent from Starkey Hearing Technologies and Eargo.

Alphabet’s team is not focused on just one device or one utility case, Insider sier. The team wants to build a successful business with more devices and models, so if they succeed, you can start using Google-owned hearing aids.
