The latest map for the popular Mafia-style game, Among us, launched March 31st. It is the game’s largest map to date, and as players have discovered, developers are allowed to hide many secrets in nooks and crannies, including Easter eggs. We decided to round out some of the coolest we’ve seen, which include references to franchises like Super Smash Bros. and Halo.
Let’s start by explaining something; The entire airship is a reference and tribute to The Henry Stickmin Collection, which is a remake of popular flash games created by Marcus Bromander (also known as Puffballs United), an artist and animator at Innersloth. The airship from Among us has exactly the same design as the Toppat Clan Airship, which is an international criminal syndicate from the Stickmin series.
One of the most noticeable references is displayed literally. When you read in the vault, you will find all kinds of goodies, like this Bloodblade from Halo. The sword on the ship has the same exact design, a red blade with a double tip and a circular hilt. While no Imposter currently uses this sword, it̵
Super Smash Bros.
The airship pays homage to one of the most famous video game courses of all time, Final Destination from the Super Smash Bros. franchise. It hangs on the north wall of the vault, although two foxes are noticeably absent in the painting.
This requires a sharp eye, but it is also in the vault. If you go to the left of the room, you will notice what appears to be a blue backpack sitting on the ground. If you inspect carefully, there is no old rubbish sitting, there is a big beak under the bag! A blue backpack and bird point to the infamous Banjo-Kazooie duo. But it makes me wonder what happened to Kazooie?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
In the porch we see tons of weapons, but if you go south, you will find a set of weapons of a different variety. There are a couple of sai, a katana, nunchucks and a bo-staff. The weapons and colors of them match the members of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo.
Various classic paintings
Speaking of classical artists, these are more than just general pop culture references. The walls are also decorated with classic paintings such as Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and Vincent Van Goghs Starry night.
If there’s one thing that’s great about maps Among us, it’s all the little ways it manages to squeeze character into the little details of the maps. Whether it’s garbage collection or fun little decorations on the wall, this world has just been a joy to explore, and all these details just love us for the game even more.
