Some things are inevitable – stock market fluctuations, thunderstorms, your favorite band reunited to compensate for bad financial planning. And then it's Alexa. Amazon's smart assistant slowly moves on all aspects of the smart home, and Google's own offer is not too far behind.
As far as these things are concerned, routers give a lot of meaning. They are an important part of keeping in touch, and in the case of masks they are everywhere. So why not make them double duty, right? Clearly Huawei and Netgear were struck by the same thought, and Amazon was more than happy to commit.
The bottom of the router is a larger speaker so Alexa can talk back with a "400ml sound cavity and an aluminum membrane." "AI" appears to refer to Alexa functionality. No words on which specific router skills Alexa wants here, but speed readings seem like a pretty good start.
Netgear, meanwhile, Huawei hit the drawing on a day with Orbi Voice. The addition to the popular line utilizes the fact that mesh routers are designed to be placed all over the home to cover WiFi dead spots. It's a bit like putting echos everywhere, except that they help keep the network covered in the process.
No word on the price for Huawei, but Netgear will drive you $ 300. Either it seems like a pretty solid addition for those looking up to Alexa.
