A security scientist has found a new way to crash and launch on any iPhone – with just a few lines of code.
Sabri Haddouche tweeted a proof-of-concept website with only 15 lines of code that, if visited, will crash and restart an iPhone or iPad. Those on MacOS can also see Safari freeze when you open the link.
The code utilizes a weakness in the iOS Web Hosting Engine WebKit, like Apple mandates all applications and browsers, "said Haddouche to TechCrunch. He explained to nesting a ton of items ̵
"Everything that makes HTML on iOS is affected," he said. This means that anyone who sends you a link on Facebook or Twitter or if a website you visit contains the code, or someone who sends you an email, he warns.
TechCrunch tested the exploit that runs on the latest mobile software iOS 11.4.1, and confirm it crashes and restarts the phone.
