There is a new Kia Soul, and although the front end has a face with an expression that looks like it mimics the Fry meme, it is still quite striking and refreshing, not like everything else rolling around the road today. Even better, Kia announced an EV version that could potentially have an impressive range of around 240 miles! Unfortunately, Kia only sells its electric cars in a very limited range of states. This is crazy. Kia can eat Nissan Leaf lunch if they take this nationwide.
The former generation Soul EV seemed like your typical California / Oregon / etc compliance car: a conversion of an existing platform with specifications that did not suggest so much effort had been inserted into it. It only had a range of around 100 miles (a bit less, really) and 107 horsepower. It was fine, but it's about it.
This new Soul EV is really up to date and now has a range that is competitive with the very best. Chevy's Bolt and Tesla Model 3-together with power take-off, which is a good leap of the 147 hp of the gasoline model: 201 electrohorses, if we can move on with the same drive puts out in the Kia Niro EV.
So, really, Kia has an EV that has great variety, good power and is not boring to look at. The non-boring part I think is absolutely crucial, especially since virtually all EV drives run the same thing.
Electric motors are not like gasoline engines, which have very different personalities and performance characteristics based on design and layout. Electric motors are quite a lot of electric motors, with good starting moment and steady power, and it's about lifting an elevator or drill holes or drive the car.
That means that for regular cars that are not going to do something really radical suspension, most EV will feel pretty much the same to drive. Therefore, other factors such as design, space utilization, tools, new layouts or features, all the more importantly.
Fisherman may be in touch with this theory of electric cars Yesterday, the electric celebrity site Electrek published an interview with noted …

Therefore, think I know that if Kia were to sell Soul EV nationally, it could completely remove Nissan Leaf, which has a significantly less range (about 150 miles) and is as exciting as an actuarial table.
The whole reason why Tesla became as if not monetary conceptually successful as they are is that they made electric cars desirable. Remember, for Tesla, most people still thought about EV like glorified golf cars – slow, dorky and mildly embarrassing.
Tesla made fast, elegant, desirable cars, and it changed the perception of electric cars dramatically. Now an EV can be cool, something that just was not the case in Comutas cars.
Well, I mean, I think Comuta the car is cooler, but everyone agrees that I'm an idiot. However, Nissan does not seem to have received the note, and builds cars like the blade at a lower reach, and all the personality and charisma of a gray wood ring binder finds you forgotten in the way back to a supply capacity. It works fine, but it would take very illegal drugs to make you actually wish one.
Additionally, if you've held out for the promised long magazine, it looks like you can hold on a little longer.
But Soul EV? It is interesting to see and indeed very practical, thanks to its light design. It has reach the numbers it needs to not only compete, but to actually do its job well, without causing people to worry about whether to do it at all times.
In addition to an estimated cost of around $ 33,000 (if we go for what the current costs, which is still about twice the price of Base Soul), it will be one of the most affordable 200+ mile range EV out there . Current Leaf, with its 150-mile range and moist-sandwich charm, is about $ 31,000. Not much difference.
Soul EV is a good example of how to do an EV right. We need reasonable EV, and we need them to be interesting, otherwise how do you get someone to bother enough to take the leap?
Kia needs to get up and stop pretending that Soul EV is just a compliance car they do not have to try to really sell. If Nissan can sell leaflets all over the country, there's no reason why the soul can not do it too and probably do better.
