Reports say that there will also be a hardcore hybrid variant that can grow to 1000 bhp. perhaps even more surprising that C8 Corvette will break the tradition by being offered for sale along with a new version of the current C7 model.

Autocar in the UK reports that sources in General Motors have indicated a mild revised version of today's C7 will still be produced as an entry level alternative e to the new, more expensive C8. Although the brand new C8 will cost significantly more than C7 that will be sold with it, it will still be priced significantly lower than the younger supercars offered by many rivals.

When the C8 comes on the market in 2019, it will use an updated version of GM's LT specification 6.2 liters V-8. Although the all-alloy unit is easy, responsive, relatively inexpensive to build and could generate around 500bhp without sweating, it still uses pushrods and will therefore not be able to match that type of low-torque turbocharged rivals ready with ease. Sticking to that engine also provides a clear connection between the new mid-engined "Vette & # 39; and the more affordable C7 fronts.
This is just the start of a more significant revolution. GM has a long history of introducing faster versions of performance cars not long after the base models have been launched. Reports in the USA suggest an overlying camshaft V-8 can be in both natural and aspirated form, and the turbo version develops as much as 745bhp of the current supercharged Corvette ZR1. A hybrid version would bring an electrically driven front axle to the party, which potentially gives Corvette an amazing total system output approaching 1000bhp.
