The Audi R8 offers supercar thrills along with the sophistication and courtesy of Audi's other models, giving a murderer combination. But a new limited edition version of R8 casts vulnerability and goals for hardcore performance. 2018 The Audi R8 V10 Plus Coupe competition boasts a number of upgrades that will make it even faster on a race track. Audi claims it is the most performance-oriented R8 production model ever. It will also be one of the rare, with a production run of only 10 cars to the United States.
The changes are subtle but significant. Titanium backplates for R8's carbon-ceramic brakes shave 2.2 pounds of weight. New 20-inch alloy wheels ̵
The R8 V10 Plus competition also gets a carbon fiber aero set that increases the strong downturn, according to Audi. Downforce is air flow that pushes the car on the road or track surface at high speeds, which increases the grip and allows the driver to move faster. At 150 km / h, Audi claims that the competition model generates 114.6 pounds of downturn, or twice as much as the base of the R8 V10 Plus base. But that's a rubbish.
The downforce-generating spoiler and tabs also add aerodynamic drag, which lowers the car. While the base R8 V10 Plus has a tensile coefficient of 0.36, the competition's aero kit increases to 0.42. It creates a corresponding drop in top speed: from 204 mph to 196 mph. However, with the 196-mph peak speed, competition still generates more downforce than the R8 V10 Plus base. Audi traded ultimate speed for more precise handling and stability in this case.
No changes were made to the drive, so the 5.2 liter V10 still produces 602 horsepower and 413 pound feet with torque. This power is applied to all four wheels through a seven-stage dual-coupling transmission. The competition has a model-specific three-way adjustable coilover suspension, though.
All R8 V10 Plus competition models are painted Suzuka Gray on the outside, with mostly black interior. Seats are black racing shells with red contrast stitches. An Alcantara steering wheel with red 12:00 mark and carbon fiber changing paddle adds more touches of sportiness. If the driver gets tired of listening to the V10 engine, a 13-speaker, 550-watt Bang & Olufsen audio system will provide some tunes.
2018 The Audi R8 V10 Plus competition hits American dealers in November. The limited edition is priced at $ 239,900, including a mandatory destination fee and gas guzzler tax.
